True Beauty

“You’re right. I have no idea what your talking about. I’m only being myself.”
-Christy Miller in A Time To Cherish by Robin Jones Gunn
As I read this, it got me thinking. Who am I? For a long time I have tried to conform to the world’s image of beauty. The hair, the make-up, how to dress; all of it. But finally, after all this time of reading 1 Peter 3:3-4 and all the verses in the Bible about beauty, something finally clicked. I call it a revelation. It doesn’t matter if I dress like the “cool” kids, whether or not my make-up is perfect or even if my hair is cute. What matters is the beauty on the inside. I keep saying ‘let your innermost unfading beauty show’, but I never really thought about-or fully comprehended what that means. 1 Peter 3:3-4 says “the unfading beauty of a *gentle* and *quiet* spirit are of great worth in God’s sight.” As long as we’re loving, kind, gentle, quiet, loving, merciful and gracious we’re of great beau…ty. True beauty. And what’s more while the world may think we’re not pretty God does. And that’s what counts in the end.
“And this world is fading away, along with everything that people crave. But anyone who does what pleases God will live forever.” 1 John 2:17
While Clothes, makeup and everything will fade away over time, while our bodies will grow old and shrivel up, we’ll still be as beautiful at 88 as we are at 18 because we have beauty where it really counts-where it doesn’t fade away. In our spirits, where Christ looks-and the world doesn’t.
