Have you ever been told you aren’t qualified?
It hurts, doesn’t it? I know! I’ve heard it all to often as a teenager, starting at the young age of 12. I remember every single time I’ve been told I’m not qualified or good enough or old enough to do ministry.
Every single time, and every single word.
I think the fact that it was older Christians telling me it-women I looked up to-made it burn even worse.
I am so thankful the Bible says otherwise!
1 Timothy 4:12 (NIV) “Do not let anyone look down on you because of your youth, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity.”
Is hard to hear elders of the church tell you you aren’t qualified. In fact, I can understand why there are record numbers of young people leaving the church. I mean, who wants to go somewhere where they continually put you down? But here’s the thing I’ve learned. There may be reasons as to why these things are being said.
•There may be a spiritual battle going on that you are unaware of.
Sometimes there are things going on in the spiritual realm that we don’t see our even sense.
•Someone feels threatened.
Now, in not saying this is always the case, but sometimes people see a light or potential and fear losing the controlling grip they have.
•Sometimes there’s a door closing that you aren’t supposed to go through.
Yes, this is a hard thing to swallow. No, God doesn’t like when believers say things that hurt each each other, but nevertheless, God can use something like that to close a door to you. It may not even be because you aren’t supposed to do that thing, maybe it’s because he sees something going on that he doesn’t want you to get mixed up in and sometimes it is to redirect you elsewhere.
Whatever the reason be, remember this, church members are human, and though they are supposed to be different, we all make mistakes and say things we don’t think through. It had taken me a very long time to come to grips with this, and yes, I still struggle sometimes with the hurt or caused me, but this is what I know: God created us. God called us to himself and no matter what ANYONE says to you, God can use you in your youth!
Jeremiah 1:7 (NIV) “But the Lord said to me “Do not say ‘I am too young.’ You must go to everyone I send you to and say whatever I command you.”
Don’t let the words of others drive you away. Instead, go read the words of the only one that truly matters. I’d be says your aren’t too young, you aren’t too young. And remember he commands is to have childlike faith. If the faith of a child is what we are called to, then you catering aren’t too young… No matter what age you are!!
